What happens to pets that are not sold, do the pet shops still keep the dogs until they grow large? Will they caged indefinitely at the shop /warehouses, or returned to the breeders to be used as breeding dogs?
If you come across any pet shops or puppy mills that inhumanely treat the pets, we should definitely expose them - our Hall of Shame is eagerly waiting for them!
yup, any of those are possible. most of the time, unsold pets are often used for breeding. altho they were kept in small cages, but wer not inhumanely treated. I'm sure happy to tie petshops/puppymills to ur hall of shame who inhumanely treats animals if prove is found! but it seems that this is common in most petshops in malaysia. i see petshops keeping their animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, iguana, etc) outside with the sun shining brightly on them due to lack of space inside.. or rabbits poor conditions and very dirty cages and mange all over.. but their is nuthin much we can do here but only to save them by purchasing them and only to have other animals taking their place and suffering. truely sad sight.. is there anythign u know of that we can do to stop/reduce this?
I believe rescuing pets by purchasing them wouldn't be a long term solution or economically viable as it would only encourage these irresponsible sellers to further breed more to sell.
What we need is the cooperation of the public to report any occurences of ill-treatment of these pets, and puppy mills with inhumane living conditions.
The first step would be to expose such people to the public, and work with relevant authorities like Veterinary Dept and NGOs to take appropriate actions on them. Our Hall of Shame would serve as a good starting point, and the public can work together to boycott these people.
Of course, to be fair, many breeders and pet shop owners are kind-hearted animal lovers just like us, and we should not be hitting out against all such sellers and breeders.
There will always lie a market for people wanting to buy pets and those that prefer to adopt - just like people who always prefer to buy branded PCs and those that will settle for DIY ones. I believe what's most important is to guide the people on responsibly managing and treating their pets, and gradually phase out the abusive people with proper education and legislations.
yup, thats very true but my frens cant stand the sight of seeing him all caged up and neglected. thks 4 the great advice and i'l keep on the lookout for any shops/breeders who are inhumanely keeping their animals
