hi cerz, i notice bearbear is spayed... i've been told neutering can only be done when the pup is at least 6mths old... pls enlighten... btw, bearbear is very lovely, seems like a small dog at maturity... :)
nope, she's not been spayed yet, but will soon be in another week or two. Yes, many vets has encouraged spaying after 6 months with some asking to wait till 1 year instead which may be too long to wait and many have gotten pregnant instead. Vets in overseas like UK, etc have been practising wat they called as early age neutering at 2 months old(puppies/kittens) for animals that are put up for adoption- early age neutering holds benefits in that the earlier the animal is neutered, the faster the recovery rate, less cost, less pain and just as safe as it is neutering an adult dog (provided the vet is experience of course) because it would be difficult to monitor every puppy that gets adopted and from yrs of experience with adoption(ie. ppl tend to change addresses, change phone numbers, give fake number, etc), neutering b4 adoption is always the best choice in assuring they will not add to the already high stray population in malaysia with hundreds of dogs being abandoned, abused and put to sleep daily. Most in fact escape from their homes just before 7 months in search for mates only to find themselves rounded up and put down. Altho many vets in malaysia is not experienced enuf to do so, there are some that are ald practising this and from so many young puppies and kittens i've send for early age neutering, the success rate is much much higher as compared to matured adult dogs.
Lol, oh yes, bearbear looks like a small breed dog in fact.
thanks for the detailed explaination! i've heard of early neutering too, but not sure which vet in the klang valley is experienced in doing that... i definitely agree with ur points, n it's always 'safer' to neuter before rehoming...
ur most welcome! oh yes, better be safer then sorry, after all the efforts and time i've spent with rescuing and nurturing them.. all it takes is one irresponsible owner to leave them un neutered and all my efforts goes down to waste knowing the dog/cat has ran away, knocked down by vehicles or has given birth to a litter of 12 and they dun want the mother cuz the puppies are cuter.. also, many has come forward in mind of getting a cross breed dog/or pure to breed with their purebred for profit or to keep their breed. after all the hard work and they wanna easily take the dog to be used as a breedin machine. A big no no for me and a big lesson i've learnt in life. to always trust yourself. If u prefer to have pups sent for early age neutering, feel free to get the directions from me =)
