Nala is a young girl with an extraordinary blend of strength and determination, and her past has been marked by significant hardships. However, she possesses an unwavering fighting spirit that refuses to be subdued.
Nala was presented to Gasing Veterinary Hospital on 13/8/23 with the primary complaint of dragging hindlimbs at roadside. During her initial medical examination, she was found to have a bloated stomach due to urine retention and in deep pain as she couldn't pass out urine. She was also found to be paraplegic and her perianal region was infested with maggots. She was flea ridden as well and had a cauliflower like tumor at vulva.
Nala was placed on IV drips and blood test was taken. Radiographs revealed left ischium fracture. Foley catheter and urine bag were placed. Impression smear of vulva tumor revealed multiple round cells with prominent chromatin and few cytoplasmic vacuoles. She was given vincristine, a chemotherapy drug, weekly for 2 doses (28/8/23 and 4/9/23).
During hospitalization, the vulva tumor reduced in size, her appetite was good, and she could stand and walk for a short while, was able to pee after the foley catheter was removed and she passed out well formed stools. The IV drip was removed after she was more stable and oral medications were given.
Through loving care and the right medication, Nala has found the will to live and has demonstrated an incredible resilience in battling her illnesses. When we first found her, she couldn't even move her hind legs or tail, and was crawling with the help of front legs. But within days of receiving treatment, she defied the odds by regaining the ability to stand.
After just a week, she began walking short distances on her own, happily wagging her tail all the while. After approaching many shelters, sanctuaries and rescue homes to give her a new place to thrive we finally found a kind lady who was willing to accept Nala and give her the love and affection that she deserved. Nala was discharged into her care on 7/9/23.
She has found a loving and caring family who are continuing her chemo treatment and giving her all the support that she needs to grow into a healthy adult. Nala's recovery has been nothing short of amazing resilience.
