[RIP, Dec 28, 2023] Our beloved Orion has crossed the rainbow bridge due to hemangiosarcoma. We miss him dearly. He has been a loyal, fearless, loving dog till the end.
[Updates] After trying for 8 months, we could not find adopters who could provide a safe environment (they either do not have a separate area or they intend to have dogs roaming freely with Orion - because Orion is aggressive towards people he doesn't trust and he is aggressive towards all animals) - hence, we have decided to keep Orion with us. :)
[IMPORTANT] Please DO NOT send us a message just to ask if he is still available. Please read the full profile and don't send message to ask us why are we giving him away, is he a good guard dog etc. If you even bother to read his full profile, you would know we are merely his fosterer and his behavior is described below. He is aggressive towards strangers and has bitten several men. He is NOT friendly with ANY animals as he has high prey drive.
[For Adoption] We are fostering Orion the German Shepherd (male) is 6YO (DOB: 1 April, 2016) after he was given up by ex-owner. He is healthy (full blood test done on Sep 15, 2022) and was neutered on Oct 10, 2022. He is on heartworm prevention and tick prevention. Thankfully, no joint issues.
Orion was confined in basement for 6 years by ex-owner. He was not walked and not socialized. He barks angrily at strangers outside his play pen. He tried to bite his ex-owner (a man) so caution should be exercised in gaining his trust. He is NOT friendly with strangers, especially men, and has bitten several men before (draw blood).
He does not bark at most dogs but he is NOT friendly with dogs. His ex-owner decided to give up on him after 6 years and almost return him to his breeders to use him. The ex-owner starved him to keep him underweight as their breeder told them to do so. We were told Orion hated his breeder (they used to send him to board with his breeder and he returned with skin issue). We suspect his breeder mistreated him as well. They failed him.
We are currently fostering him from Sep 8, 2022 until he finds a good home. He was only 26kg on Sep 8. We are feeding him more (he needs to gain another 6 to 8kg at least). He was 32.9kg on Oct 10 and approximately 35kg now.
It is best if he goes to a home with experienced handler. He is high energy and must be exercised daily. We now jog with him daily (about 2 to 3km a day). He is very friendly with some female handlers and is very affectionate towards people he trusts. He is also a good guard dog. He also has high prey drive and will chase after moving smaller animals (including small dogs, cats, squirrel, etc.) to hunt them. He has bitten cats. He is NOT safe around other animals.
Our recommendation is that he MUST start out with having a large confined area where adopter can slowly gain his trust (because you won't gain his trust immediately) - if there is any risk of him running out of gate when opened, it is NOT a suitable place for him. Remember, if he bites your neighbour's kid or kill your neighbour's dog when out for walk, you are LIABLE.
If you are keen to give him a chance at better life, please send a message to us to answer the following questions. Failure to answer all questions or asking us to PM you will result in a ban from our page.
