[Reminder] Please do not send us a message just to ask if Loki is still available for adoption. If he is not, we would update the post, as mentioned at the end of this profile. We will only reply applicants who are shortlisted. Please DO NOT expect same-day/ next-day response as we work full-time. If you demand an immediate response just because you answered the questions below, you are automatically rejected for behaving 'entitled'.
[About Loki] Loki the Terrier Mix (16-17kg) was rescued on the street by another rescuer 3 years ago (when he was about 3 to 4 years' old) and was adopted by a couple. He was in a loving home for 3 years but now has to be given up due to work arrangements overseas. They have placed him with us to foster him. His ex-owners are sponsoring his supplements until he finds a good home. We are sponsoring his food and grooming while we foster him. They have sent him to do blood test (CHEM17) and teeth scaling before handing him to us. He is in good health.
Loki is playful with dogs (but not intact male dogs) and can even get along with cats. With humans, he can be wary at first but only takes a day or less to warm up to new humans. So, patience is needed when you first meet him. If a stranger he doesn't trust insist to invade his personal space, he will growl and/or snap (Hence, we prefer adopters who have experience managing aggression from trust issues). He has bitten several strangers who wanted to touch him. Once he trusts you, you can touch him anywhere. He is affectionate only to those he trusts. He is a good watch dog. He will not do well in a home with many visitors as he has trust issues.
He is well behaved during grooming sessions. He is toilet trained to pee on his tray but he prefers to poop during walk. Hence, he should be walked at least once a day (at least 20-30 minutes) for him to do his business. Else, he shall poop in the garden. He knows a few commands and can even press a few buttons to inform if he wants to eat, walk, or play.
He doesn't destroy, doesn't simply bark (but he barks at delivery guys). He usually barks excitedly right before his walk. He is used to both indoor and outdoor (sheltered) stay. However, he is allergic to grass if exposed for long hours (no issue if walking on grass but should not be left rolling on grass for hours).
He has food guarding issue (this means he growls/ snaps if you are trying to take his food away when he eats). Hence, we advise not to go near him during meal/ treats time. If you are interested to adopt him, please send us a message and answer the questions below:
1. Please describe your experience handling dogs (if any)
2. Please describe the environment you are providing him with (e.g. landed, other pets, sleeping arrangement, food)
3. Are your family members supportive of the adoption and willing to commit? Loki has trust issue and resource aggression. He has bitten strangers. (Please make sure you discuss with your family first before coming to us, as that is respecting our time)
4. How much time can you spend with him daily?
5. Are you agreeable to arrange for house visit prior to trial adoption and send updates to us every now and then after adoption?
Please note that only shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet him. Anyone who doesn't answer the questions above or simply comment PM will be ignored. Please do not send a message to ask is he still available; if he has been adopted, we will update the post. People who do not read gave us a feeling they may not be sincere.
If you are 22 years' old and below, kindly ask your parents/ guardians to contact us instead. Thank you for choosing to adopt.
