BONDED GUINEA PIGS AVAILABLE FOR PAIR ADOPTION
Meet Zebra and Panda: two healthy MALE and bonded guinea pigs brothers up for adoption. They are 2 years old and have short black and white fur. They are most active in the evenings and mornings when they like to run around and play with each other, otherwise they are usually lazing and sleeping. When they are particularly happy, they will do little popcorn hops around the cage. However, they do NOT climb like hamsters. So guinea-pig cages do NOT need a top as long as the fencing is at least 1 foot high on all sides.
Everyday care for the guinea pigs includes feeding them twice a day, and providing them with enough Timothy Hay to chew 24/7. One meal should be a raw salad, consisting of green leafy vegetables (favourite: butterhead lettuce), carrot and cucumber slices - at least one cup per guinea pig per day. A few sprigs of fresh herbs like parsley is a great treat and they love to eat apple-cores that we usually throw away. Their second meal can be dried pellets (favourite: Genesis brand Guinea Pig pellets).
Their water also needs to be refreshed twice a day, once in the morning and another at evening to last them throughout the night. Their nails and teeth grow continuously, so they must have a wooden chew toy in the cage to gnaw on, and may need occasional nail trimming (very rare). Due to their short fur, they do not need any brushing. Once a week, the cage should be cleaned out and the old pinewood litter replaced with fresh new litter. They do not require frequent baths, and only if particularly dirty. Baby shampoo and warm water will suffice!
These guinea pigs are suitable for children around 9 and above to keep as pets. Children below 9 can participate in the care and feeding of the pigs, but the main cage cleaning duties should be done by older children/adults.
Items that will be given along with the 2 guinea pigs are:
1. one yellow small temporary cage that can be used as an “extra cage” when cleaning out their main pen/cage,
2. any leftover Timothy hay and Genesis pellets, pinewood litter
3. water bottle,
4. food bowl,
5. 2 wood tunnels (great for gnawing),
6. 1 red pigloo,
7. 1 T-shape tunnel
8. 2 cushioned beds
Items that must be prepared/purchased by adopter are:
1. Fresh veggies (their current weekly diet consists of: 2 butterhead lettuce, 1 carrot and 1 cucumber, fed throughout one week)
2. Large pen/cage with smooth bottom surface (never a grid bottom because their little feet can get caught between the cage bars)
3. Timothy Hay, Genesis Pellets & Pinewood Litter
Outdoor time on a sunny morning, in a pen, on fresh green grass would be like heaven for the guinea pigs. Just make sure no birds/cats/predators can get to them as guinea-pigs are prey-animals.
Only serious pair-adoptions will be considered, as guinea-pigs do best as a pair, and Zebra and Panda are fully bonded.
Reason we are putting these 2 cuties up for adoption: Our 2 resident cats are always trying to stalk/prowl/hunt for Zebra and Panda.
