Hi Mandy. Thank you for the nice words :) I personally haven't handled a guinea pig before but I have handled a lot of rabbits. They are almost similar and I have read through them before. I can give some few advices and knowledge that I have acquired throughout reading about guinea pig.
Hi Mandy. I will just tell you my experience base on rabbits.
My baby batch of rabbits grew up until they are adult. At first their mother do not know what to do therefore, we force the mother to lie down and let the baby drink the milk to get the immuntity up. We continue doing that until they are well okay which do not need to drink milk but some solid food.
We do let them run at inside the house but must be kept clean or not bacteria might go to them which they may fall sick because of it. Did they suckle the milk from their mom? Did you really clean the compound inside your house?
Hi Mandy, I can't figure out why either about this. It may be possible that perphaps the mother has some worms inside her body that can be transmitted to the baby. It is possible but of course I am not too sure about this...
On the other side, chemical water for mopping can actually kill bacteria. Normal water couldn't really rub it off. That may be another possible answer to this.
Sorry.. this is my only possible answer to this :((
Hi Mandy. As far as I know, my baby rabbit did not lick the floor so it's quite safe. If you are still worried, you can use those floor washer which is safe for pets :) I hope my advices help you out. You can ask me anything anytime :) Thank you for asking :D
