I've grown up with animals my whole life. I know that it takes responsibility and to think further ahead in the future before owning a pet to avoid in contributing to more strays, negligence and especially abuse. I've taken care of dogs, cats, hamsters and fishes. I strongly believe that one should do his/her research on the animal that is to be adopted to make sure that you're up for the challenge and the animal will not suffer in the end.
