Soi Dog Foundation applauds South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s recent announcement about the possibility of banning the consumption of dog meat in the country! 🇰🇷
Such a statement from a national leader is significant and reflective of changing public opinion, and we view this as a very positive step forward in ending this barbaric trade in the region.
While there is legislation in place in South Korea banning the cruel slaughter of dogs and cats, there is no law banning the consumption, and around one million dogs continue to be killed for meat every year as a result. These are signs that cultural views and attitudes are changing and that the consumption of dog meat is beginning to be viewed as animal abuse rather tradition.
With your support, we are determined to continue fighting against the dog meat trade in South Korea and other Asian countries where it is still prevalent. As well as campaigning against the dog meat trade in Vietnam and Cambodia, Soi Dog recently partnered with Animal Rescue Korea 119 (ARK119) to care for sick dogs rescued from meat farms in South Korea. ARK119 has successfully shut down several dog meat farms and rescued many dogs in the process.
