The Belum-Temengor Forest Complex In The North-Cen..
The Belum-Temengor Forest Complex in the north-central region of Peninsular Malaysia is home to about 34 village settlements of the Jahai and Temiar Orang Asli whose communities have inhabited the forest for hundreds of years. This forest complex is one of the priority sites for WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts. 🌳
The rivers that flow through the forests are a lifeline on which these communities are directly dependent for their livelihood, as they use the rivers daily and follow the traditional practices of fishing, gathering non-timber forest products and planting crops. 🌳
Being dependent on the rivers, the role of the Orang Asli as guardians of the forest is of vital importance. If the rivers on which they rely on no longer flow or become unable to provide sustenance due to disturbances to the larger ecosystem, this would have a direct and damaging impact on the lives of these communities.
