We noticed one of our Rawang young punks Chris walking funny and slanted. We brought him to Dr Lian and it was found he suffered from several deformaties probably acquired at birth. These are the findings.
Clinical examination on both hind limbs:
1) Angular deformities (cow hocked)
2) Decrease on left thigh muscle mass
3) Uneven level of iliac wing, left shifted cranially
4) Medial patella luxation:
a) Right : grade 2
b) Left : grade 2 – 3 (self displacement at certain gaits and angles)
5) No significant discomfort/pain
X-ray findings:
1) Bone growth plates fused
2) Hip:
a) Left quadriceps muscle mass towards the right
b) Mild asymmetrical pelvic, tilted to right, left side shifted cranially
c) Left hip dysplasia : shallow acetabular rim, mildly distorted femoral head and absence of femoral neck
3) Femur shaft:
a) Bowing of both shaft especially the left
b) Disparity of shaft height: left shifted cranially
c) Disparity of shaft length: right 209mm & left 175mm
4) Stifle: lateral view – mild patella displacement on both sides, left to right
According to Dr Lian, multiple surgical and patella corrections might not benefit or help him at present due to angular deformity. Conservative plan for Chris would be weight management, avoid high impact exercise and slippery surface, joint supplements and pain control when necessary.
He has been fully vaccinated and neutered. We won’t be sending him back to Rawang because he is a ruffian there and the jumping, running and wrestling may make his condition worse. So he will be joining the Multiple Fracture Gang as well as the uncles and aunties at the half-way home.
