Today, On International Blind Dog Day, Wed Like To..

Today, on International Blind Dog Day,🐾 we’d like to introduce you to Sookie, one of our shelter’s many visually impaired pups. Sookie is looking for a home, and you can enquire about her here: https://links.soidog.org/Sookie-searching-for-love

Sookie was rescued in 2018 from a government pound in the northeast of Thailand and transferred to our shelter after it was discovered she had glaucoma in both of her eyes. Left untreated, the condition had caused irreversible damage, and she was in a world of pain. Unfortunately, our vets had no choice but to remove her eyes completely.

As you can imagine, adjusting to life without her vision hasn’t been easy for Sookie. The inability to read other dogs’ body language is just one of the many challenges she’s faced, so she spends much of her time tucked away in a concrete tunnel in her enclosure where she feels safe and secure.

However, although Sookie lost her sight, she never lost her courage. For example, when she hears the familiar footsteps of volunteers, she’ll come out of her tunnel and wait patiently at the gate for them to take her out for a walk. When she’s with someone she trusts, Sookie relishes her walks and amazes us with how she navigates around using the mental map of the shelter she’s built up in her mind.

Understandably, Sookie can be easily frightened by certain noises, so she will need someone caring and patient to guide her through her worries. After three years and three months of waiting, she still hasn’t found that special someone. Could it be you? https://links.soidog.org/Sookie-searching-for-love
