This stretch of open area with fragmented riparian forests is an important route for wildlife. In the next five years, restoration efforts will turn this stretch into an ecological corridor to maintain wildlife connectivity between Tabin Wildlife Reserve and the Silabukan Forest Reserve in Sabah.

Coined as the Bagahak ecological corridor, this corridor is expected to be crucial to over 1, 000 orang-utans in Tabin Wildlife Reserve and 50 orang-utans in Silabukan Forest Reserve as a form of connectivity to maintain gene flow between the two orang-utan populations.
