Raenia came to the Soi Dog shelter in 2016 when she was three months old after surviving a near-drowning. She was a tentative little pup back then, with a skinny frame and cloudy corneas. Nine months after arriving, Raenia was adopted by a loving family, Merete and Jim, who took her home to California, USA to start her new life. 🇺🇸 They’ve been living furry-tail lives filled with love and nurturing ever since.
Today, we are delighted to share a wonderful #furrytailending update for Raenia (renamed Angel✨) four years on:
“Angel (Raenia) is still doing a great job being the bestest puppy ever (followed by intense tail wag). She loved the shut downs, especially me being furloughed for 13-14 weeks and Jim working from home most of the year. She is still very much a daddy’s girl. She has perfected her begging puppy stare, and her love for cheese has (if possible) intensified.
My knee gave out so we don’t really go hiking anymore, unless it’s trails that are flat. But in the last year she has gotten really lazy and even when we do go for hikes she wants to turn around after 20-30 minutes. So now it’s mostly neighborhood walks, parks and she gets to go to the store where I work and say hello to everyone almost every night before her afternoon walk.
She is still very tight with Khanid, the youngest cat, and she has a working agreement with the two senior cats ‘You don’t bother us, we don’t bother you’. Car rides are still the best thing ever and she is happy with 15 minutes of walk followed by 10-15 minutes of car ride on quiet streets where she can sniff.
She is wonderful off leash now, and she very rarely goes more then 10-15 meters away from me in any direction. It also allows her to control the speed and where she wants to go. She has become a well-known sight in the neighborhood, and she has both people and dogs that enjoy it when she is willing to give them a minute of her time to say hello/get butt scratches.
Today we are both going to work so she is spending her day with “grandpa” and his dog, Fidget – they have been friends since shortly after she arrived.
Oh interestingly enough she has started to have bad reactions to chicken. It started sort of out of the blue almost a year ago and just got worse, so now this is a chicken free house. Turkey was a good substitute, and she is also a big fan of Ostrich of all things.
I hope that you know how much joy you brought to this house by letting us adopt this sweet girl! “
It is so wonderful to see Raenia (Angel) enjoying life as a California girl! As well as her amazing adopters, she has you, our supporters, to thank for making it all possible.🧡✨
