“Every single generation will face its issues, and the defining issue of our generation will be the health of the environment”.
An inspiring session by Lewis Pugh, UN Oceans Advocate and endurance swimmer, entitled “The power is in your hands”. Having swum the North Pole, English Channel and Khumbu glacier, these are the takeaways from his experiences:
– The changes which are happening in the polar regions are happening so quickly that it will impact every living thing on the planet. We need to do everything we can to protect these last great wilderness areas on earth and tackle the climate crisis.
– The science is very clear – We need to protect at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030 for it to stand any chance of recovery.
– For real, effective change to take place, we have to completely change our mind-set. Just because something worked in the past doesn’t necessarily mean it will work today or tomorrow.
– To fight against the climate crisis, we need to dive in and commit 100%, build good habits to be more resilient, and adapt.
We change, or we will drown.
