Happy Coral Triangle Day

Did you know that corals are actually animals? Each individual is known as coral polyps and a group of them is a coral colony – together, they form a coral reef.
Do you also know that Sabah (part of the Coral Triangle, epicentre of marine biodiversity) has the highest coverage and diversity of coral species in Malaysia. The Coral Triangle is facing a lot of threats from climate change and anthropogenic (human caused) impacts.
One of the impacts of climate change is global warming and the increasing temperature of the sea surface. This can be devastating for the coral reefs as an increase of 1℃ can cause the corals to bleach.
Our earth is known as the blue planet and our oceans/marine environment play a vital role in the survival of humans and other lifeforms. Remember that any action one takes no matter how far you are from the oceans – can still make an impact. Therefore every little action like saving water and electricity can be a kinder action that saves our world!
