Painted Terrapins Population Study In Setiu Wetlands, Terengganu.

#DYK that the critically endangered Painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis) is found in Setiu Wetlands, Terengganu?

WWF-Malaysia’s Freshwater team has commenced a Painted terrapin population study in Setiu Wetlands with the support of our corporate partner, CIMB Islamic. The study will assess if a thriving population exists which implies the state of the wetlands as Painted terrapins are an indicator of the wetlands ecosystem health. The findings will help frame recommendations to improve protection of the species and its habitats. Ever wondered how such a population study is done? Watch the video to find out.

Having just celebrated Endangered Species Day on 21 May 2021 and World Turtle Day on 23 May 2021, learn more about the fascinating freshwater turtle at wwf.org.my/paintedterrapin
