Celebrating the shy under-dogs who jumped hurdles and overcame their worst fears to show everyone that there is nothing they can’t get through, with the help of the right family. It’s time for a #furrytailending on #motivationmonday
Today we are shining the spotlight on New Star who is now called Rupert.
He was an extremely shy dog at first , but over the years he was at Soi Dog he slowly started to trust more and more people. #shydogmonth
Here is his story as told by New Star himself:
“One day back in 2016 some nasty man placed an elastic band around my muzzle it really hurt & cut deep, someone saved me by taking me to Soi Dog Foundation, they did a great job in fixing me up, although I am left with a “joker smile” it does make me stand out. Then I got cancer, again, they fixed me, I was at the shelter for some time and got to meet lots of volunteers who remember me fondly,
Then November 2020 my new mum and dad in Canada [found me] and now I’m here. At first, I wasn’t too impressed with that white stuff on the ground and it was cold man… but mum bought me a selection of onesies and jackets which I model very well. One day this snow stuff turned to ice and I just refused to walk in it anymore so mum had to carry me home… she ordered me some boots after that episode.
I live with a few other siblings, there are a few cats here and when I sniff their bums they turn into snakes and try to “high five” me which is odd, so I scream at them… I can be quite vocal, it could be because of my history who knows.
I get on great with my brother Neville and sister Lawana was also a resident at SDF, she remembers me but I don’t remember her, she has quite the “thing” for me 😳…All I want is to chase and be chased around the garden. That’s my fun thing, oh, and to rip apart the cat’s stuffy toys.
[My] mum and dad knew I wasn’t in the greatest of health when they took me on, they said they “wanted to give me the best of whatever life” I have. I go to the vets for regular bloodwork checks and I’m given daily pills, I used to be great a spitting them out with my extra holes, then I got introduced to cheese whizz… when that stuff comes out…wow ! I’ll take in anything😋.
Mum and dad say they love me to bits…not sure what that means 🤔….hope it’s not literally. They give me lots of hugs and kisses.
I also enjoyed my first Christmas here too, there was a nice tree and I got lots of gifts and a plush bed ….I think I’m liking it here.” – Newstar now Rupert from all the way in Canada.
There is so much a shy, sensitive dog can offer. While it may not be for everyone, if you have a quiet home, a calm environment and loving patience, you would be offering something amazing for dogs like New Star. They are constantly lost in the crowd just because they are not the first to make eye contact or greet you with a big wide smile.
Give the shy dogs a chance this month. #adoptashydog
Meet more of New Star’s friends who are just like him waiting quietly for that plush bed and to be loved to bits 😉
