In innovation lies the answer to obstacles. Soi Dog’s Catch I Neuter I Vaccinate I Return CNVR continues in the middle of another wave of the pandemic in Thailand.
In April, we received a message from an expat living in Bangkok alerting us to a pack of dogs in an abandoned plot of land in the outskirts of the city. It was a large area surrounded by a garbage dump, a walking/cycling track and some of the area used by locals for cultivation.๐
When our mobile clinic team in Bangkok visited the area, they estimated a population of about 50 resident dogs. They were well fed and looked after by the local community. However, they were not sterlised and were breeding freely and the pack slowly growing every year.๐๐
Our team were set to get the dogs spayed and neutered soon as possible.

However, as the area is large and open with multiple access points, they had to come up with a novel approach to catch the dogs.
In the end, a make-shift meshed ‘wall’ was set up that acted as a spacious enclosure made of metal gates to humanely trap the dogs.
We were very lucky to have the cooperation of some of the members of the local community the dogs trusted as they were fed by them every evening. Some of these feeders helped to coax the more friendly dogs into the enclosed area without stressing them unnecessarily.
Afterwards, our team was able to easily get the dogs transported to our clinic for sterilisation, and bringing them back after they recovered from the surgery.
These dogs and over 11,900 others were sterilised last month, ๐ THANKS TO YOU which will improve their welfare and prevent the birth of thousand of unwanted pups and kittens.
To truly end the suffering of street dogs and cats, spay and neuter is the way forward.
To date, Soi Dog Foundation has sterilised over 560,000 dogs and cats since 2003. All because of your support.๐
Despite the lock downs and other barriers due to the rising Covid-19 infections in Thailand, the mobile clinic teams continue diligently to spay and neuter the free-roaming dogs in areas such as Bangkok and Koh Samui.
Join us to reach a million sterilised dogs and cats by 2024.
