Another First-Time Rescuer!

Two days ago, a old friend (we’re talking about an old schoolmate whom I last saw when I was in Sixth Form, now how long ago is that?!!) wrote to me, out of the blue. Apparently, she had found an abandoned kitten whose eyes were still closed, and she has never handled any kitten before.

A mother cat has abandoned her very young kitten (eyes still closed, ears flat) and I don’t know how to care for it. Don’t know what to do actually.
My son and I put it in a basket lined with an old soft towel to keep it warm and dry. Fed it some diluted warmed fresh milk with a dropper but it hardly had a few drops, doesn’t seem to know how to suck.
Any advice? I’m worried it may weaken further.
Unfortunately my husband is not fond of pets and I’m not sure I can keep it very long either.
I sent our tips on fostering (http://myanimalcare.org/fosterrehome/), and told her to follow it, and do what she can. We also talked about not giving cow’s milk, about keeping the kitty warm, etc.
And this morning, guess what…
Just an update: kitten opened its eyes yesterday and is sucking heartily from the small nursing bottle. About 10cc every 4 or 5 hours. Also defecating normally (crucial as referenced from net resources). Been giving it light sponges on its belly with warm damp cotton swabs which it seems to enjoy.
Will take it to the vet on saturday. Been on shoot so haven’t been able to do that yet.
Thanks so much for your advice.
Hooray! See why I say there’s always a first time and you need not be an experienced caregiver to nurse even such a tiny kitten? I’ve asked for a photo. I hope she will send me one.
