Local communities in Setiu Wetlands are highly dependent on the rivers and other ecosystems in the wetlands for various economic and livelihood benefits. Recognising the importance of protecting the environment around them, the local community of Kampung Mangkok came together and did their part in combating solid waste pollution via the Plogging@Setiu Wetlands: Walk and Care jointly organised by WWF-Malaysia with the Village Development and Security Committee. More than 130 kg of solid waste consisting of plastics, glass, aluminum and paper were collected from the river and beaches within the village during the half day event held on 2 April 2021 involving 70 participants.
