We Dedicated The Month Of March To The Over-Looked..

🌟We dedicated the month of March to the over-looked, the forgotten, the misunderstood, ‘under-dogs’ of the cat world. Cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. (FIV).🌟

With many cats infected with FIV coming into shelters like Soi Dog Foundation and some of them healthy enough to live happily in a home, we wanted to share their story to encourage more adoptions, more love and more awareness about these special kitties of the world. #FIVAwarenessmonth

✴️

Here are the basics of FIV, you need to know and remember:

🔸FIV is a slow acting virus that affects all species of the cat family. The virus infects the cells that help fight diseases therefore affecting the ability to fight infections. FIV is similar to HIV, but only affecting feline species.

🔸Kitties affected with the virus, if are in good health will continue to fight the disease for many years by minimising the viral replication, delaying any signs of the disease affecting the cat’s general health.

🔸The virus is passed on from one cat to another mainly through deep bite wounds and is seen widely in male cats, who are likely to have got into territorial disputes if unneutered and roaming.

🔸Caring for an FIV positive cat is more or less the same as that of a any special needs cat. Providing them good quality of care including a stress-free environment with less chance of being affected by diseases, means there is no burden on their compromised immune systems. They will also need regular vet-check ups to ensure that any issues are nipped in the bud.

✴️

Most animal rescues are not able to give FIV cats a second chance, but we have been lucky to offer some of these cats a special place in our sanctuary, thanks to wonderful animal lovers like you.

The FIV cats who live at soi Dog are those who have faced terrible situations on the streets such as road traffic accidents and can never go back to where they were found.

Some of them need on going veterinary care, whilst some of them are strong and in search of that ever-elusive #foreverhome

If your heart goes out to vulnerable cats like those with FIV at Soi Dog Foundation, please consider making a donation for their on going care: https://links.soidog.org/donate-to-vulnerable-cats
