A Turtle Story
Tweet |
This morning, a lady by the name of Elisabeth called me. Apparently, a turtle (not a tortoise, but a turtle) had crawled into her apartment.
She asked her neighbours and no one claimed ownership of the little reptile though she said someone nearby did keep tortoises.
When she called me, she had put the turtle in a bathtub.
I suggested surrendering the turtle to Zoo Negara, but she said she’d prefer putting the turtle in a temple pond or something like that.
Images of Penang’s Air Itam pond came to my mind with overcrowded turtles in murky waters and I wasn’t too keen. I also did not know of any temple ponds that are well maintained around here.
How big is it, I asked Elisabeth.
She said it’s only about 2-3 inches.
Oh, a baby turtle?
So, I made a phonecall to a friend who knows a lot about animals, and he said, “No problem, bring the turtle to me, I’ll foster it until it’s bigger and I’ll release it in the Bukit Jalil pond.”
Can it survive there, and is it well-maintained?
He assured me it would be.
So, I called Elisabeth and the kind lady brought the turtle to my friend.
The turtle is with my friend now – safe and sound.
Long live the turtle and three cheers to Elisabeth and my friend (he wants to remain anonymous).
I’ve asked for a photo. When he sends me one, I’ll blog it. Elisabeth says she did not have a camera, too.
That’s one nice story for the day, eh?
Next nice story, coming up….
