Hi,

We have this stray cat that we have been feeding for quite a while now
but it didnt come home for a couple of weeks. Last week, the cat
finally came home, in bad condition. Its very skinny now
(previously it was normal size, healthy) and very bonny. The worst
part is that it lost its voice and smells really bad. The odor
is that of a dead rat or something rotten. We have been feeding it but
from our observation, it seems to have trouble eating. Every time it
eats, it seems to be choking and sometimes it vomits out the food.
We hope to get your help to take this cat as we have too many in hands
now to care for. We also feed at least 5 other stray cats that come
every day for food. We hope that by you taking over the care of this
cat, it can be healed properly and have a better life since we dont
think we can afford to keep it anymore though we would love to.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Thank you

I’ve replied and explained to Ms Mak that first, we are not a shelter and do not take in animals. Second, we really hope she will take responsibility for the cat even though it is a stray but Ms Mak has been feeding it for sometime now.

From the photograph, the cat really looks sick. Poor thing. It needs immediate medical attention and I have urged Ms Mak to bring the cat to a vet for treatment as soon as possible. We will provide a subsidy.

I hope she does it.

If any of you feel compelled to help this cat, please contact Ms Mak directly and we will provide the subsidy. This cat needs a vet’s attention urgently.

UPDATES at 11.oopm – Ms Mak (who goes by the name of Ivy) wrote again insisting that I take over her cat. I said I could not, and urged her again to take the cat to the vet for immediate medical attention. But Ivy said she is a student and cannot afford it despite our 50% subsidy, so I said we’d provide more than 50%, so that she would take the cat to the vet.

She also said this is not her cat, but one of 5 strays that she feeds. But that is not the point. We have helped many students who bring in stray animals. Remember Herliyati Christine, her friends and Chewie, the brave kitten with diaphragmatic hernia? Herliyati was (and still is) a student. And Chewie was not even fed by her. Chewie was a stray kitten.

Ivy later (finally!) wrote back saying she would take the cat to the vet, but asked me to tell her what is wrong with the cat, how much it would cost to treat the cat and what the procedure would be like. I’m not a vet, and even a vet will not and probably cannot diagnose by looking at the photograph. If a vet could, we could all have virtual clinics through the computer screen or smartphone.

Now, I’m praying that she will take the cat to the vet as soon as possible.
