When Poppy arrived at Soi Dog, in truth, we did not think she would make it through the night. Her condition was dire. She was only a few years old. Yet she could not stand. Her body was so deprived of food and water that her organs were shutting down. She had septicaemia and anaemia. She barely had any fur. Fleas and ticks had infested the sweet girl, and she had maggot-filled wounds.

The first time we offered Poppy some food, her eyes opened wide. She did not have the strength to lift her head, so the vets supported her as she gobbled down the much-needed sustenance her body craved. It was clear that Poppy wanted to live. Day by day, Poppy grew in strength. It was a heck of a journey for Poppy and her team of carers, but she, like us, was not willing to give up without a fight.

Following her phenomenal transformation, Poppy was lucky enough to get the greatest gift of all. A wonderful couple in the USA adopted her. Today, her abysmal past is just a distant memory, and she is surrounded by love and safety. This is our dream for every animal in our care.
