Taitues Tonio Ango Micheal, or Tai, works with the Wildlife Conservation team for orang-utan nest count surveys. The locations of these targeted survey sites contain some of the toughest terrains and mightiest rivers of the bewildering rainforests of Borneo. The only way to access the area is through long boats. These boats are traditionally engineered by the Iban community over the past hundreds of years and are designed to battle the treacherous river rapids of the upstream Katibas River, Sarawak. The boat’s aerodynamic narrow design allows it to glide through the raging currents while its lightweight structure allows for it to float above big and sharp rocks.
