Happily Ever Afters Doesnt Come Easily, Especially..

‘Happily ever afters’ doesn’t come easily, especially for dogs like Tawantok. She arrived at Soi Dog bleeding from her belly after experiencing a road traffic accident. But this fierce puppers was a survivor and she never gave up. After her recovery, one of our partner rescue, Motley Zoo Animal Rescue welcomed Tawantok to the USA in July 2019. When she arrived they found that she was incontinent and had fear based aggression – a combination that made finding her a forever home with people that would accept her as she is, very difficult. She was placed in a foster home and adjusted to life as a precious pet and, after waiting for almost a year, Tawantok (renamed Tandy) finally found her forever home and is LOVING her new life! Here’s a wonderful peep into Tandy’s new world from her adopter:

“Tandy is doing well. I think she must be feeling pretty secure in her new life here because she’s starting to push the boundaries a bit. The lip curls and growls continue when the cat gets too close, and she charges after the squirrels with enthusiasm. She’s been learning to catch her treats, at first they just bounced off her nose, but she’s got the idea now and catches most of them, especially if the cat is within range. She adjusted to some disruptions in the routine while we re-stained the decks front and back.

We had a walk in Kubota Gardens that she enjoyed. There were stream crossings on rocks, ponds to investigate, a few other dogs and of course squirrels. The best was getting up close with several koi. One was just inches from her nose, and I’m sure she would have gone in after it if I hadn’t held her collar. Yesterday we visited a friend with a large fenced yard, room for her to run and explore.

She is a joy to have in our family, sweet, affectionate, mostly cooperative. No one’s lost any fingers yet, and she’s done pretty well at meeting new people. We’ve been cautious introducing her to any children while we’re out, but Tandy has been gentle with them all. She does step back if someone approaches her, but nothing aggressive.”
