Established by UK newspaper The Daily Mirror, the Animal Hero Awards honour the most inspiring, uplifting and breathtaking stories of heroism in the animal kingdom. They also honour people who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for animals.

On hearing news of the “Outstanding Contribution” award, John extended his gratitude to Soi Dog supporters all over the world.

“I want to thank everybody who has supported us and enabled Soi Dog to become what it is today. I receive this award on behalf of you, on behalf of all our volunteers over the years and our staff. I’m just sad that Gill can’t be here to share it with you. The only reason we’ve been able to do this is because of our supporters. Without you, we couldn’t do any of this. Thank you so much for your help and thank you so much for honouring Soi Dog with this award”.

John and Gill faced enormous tragedy in their efforts to relieve the suffering of Thailand’s street dogs and cats. But, for the animals, they overcame.

Even when co-founder Gill lost both of her legs in 2004, herself and John never gave up. Now, over three years after Gill’s untimely passing, John continues their mission to make the world a better place for street dogs and cats.

This award recognises their bravery despite the misfortune and heartbreak they endured. And it honours you, our supporters, who have stuck by John and Gill and been true heroes for street animals who have no one else.
