America’s Front Line for Homeless Dogs
Sonya Franklin has the best food truck in Houston….at least that’s what the animals would tell you. No, she’s not serving to-go meals for people here. You have to have four legs to get in line.
Three to four days a week, Sonya stops at over 100 feeding stations that she has created for community animals who have no homes. She’s not only spreading out enough food to last for 48 hours, but she’s also scooping up a few on each trip and bringing them in for spay/neuter, veterinary treatments and foster care. She calls her mission Houston’s Homeless Babies and she’s determined to find homes for many of them.
What’s perhaps even more amazing than the sheer volume of animals Sonya helps each week, is the positive spirit that she maintains. While many rescuers develop compassion fatigue and begin to turn to depression after years of confronting suffering up close, Sonya is positively glowing. Her faith buoys her and comforts her during times when she is feeling overwhelmed.
Over the weekend, Sonya saved a badly injured and emaciated dog she’s named Mercy.
“God sent me to her,” Sonya said. “She was not on my normal feeding route. She could barely stand and inside the fence where she went to, pits were mating her. She could get away if she wanted too. She was trying to leave but just too weak to get away.”
Sonya has just taken Mercy to the vet and we have sent a donation to help with the veterinary expenses. Mercy is now safe with a local rescue group who will take charge of her case.
“Thank you, thank you,” Sonya tells our supporters. “God bless and keep you. Love, be multiplied. We are feeding Houston’s Homeless Babies.”
