Rescuing Very Young Puppies Without Mothers Is A C..

Rescuing very young puppies without mothers is a case of ‘damned if you do damned if you don’t’ some times. This is because puppies must have their mama’s milk straight for seven weeks to build antibodies. Recently we rescued 10 puppies belonging to a mother that appeared to have died of mammary gland tumour. We believe her condition did not provide the puppies much milk. At tge same time, we also rescued four very young puppies that had lost their mother in an accident. The first batch we placed in our quarantine area with a few other new residents whilst the second batch was sent to a volunteer’s home. The first batch came down with distemper whilst the second batch came down with parvo. The oupoies with parvo are doing well whilst one of the distemper patients died whilst nine are doing well. Three of our other rescues have also tested positive and we are worried about our resident dogs. Last night was a frenzy of testing and administering distemper jabs. Today is a continuation of yesterday. We are very very grateful to Dr Wong and Dr Tan of Wawasan Veterinary Clinic who worked till almost midnight helping us and have cone to help us today again despite it being their off day. We may need your support and help. Till our next update. Attached links on distemper and parvovirus.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).
