The Classic Chicken Or Egg Question Answered!!

Yesterday, I chanced upon a few minutes of a TV programme about the myths and legends surrounding the first 15 days of Chinese Year Year and why the 7th day is known as “everybody’s birthday.
I googled and found this:http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/Chinese_Customs/chinese-new-year-festivities.htm
An excerpt:
According to Chinese legends, Nwa (Traditional Chinese: ??; Simplified Chinese: ??; Pinyin: n?w?) is the goddess who created the world. Two legends refer to her creations.
Nwa and her brotherFuxisurvived a devastating calamity, which had wiped out all other life. Retired to Kunlun Mountain they prayed for a sign from the Emperor of Heaven. The divine being approved their union and the siblings set about procreating the human race.
Note: in some texts or according to other legends, Nwa is considered to be Fuxis wife.
According to a different legend Nwa created certain animals on different days as she was lonesome and wanted the animals as company. On the seventh day after the creation of the world, Nwa created human beings fromyellowclay. With the divine power entrusted to her, Nwa made the clay figurines to become alive.
So, what has this got to do with the Chicken or the Egg question?
Well, apparently, Nuwa only created humans on the 7th day (hence, it’s known as “everyone’s birthday).
On the first day, Nuwa created….(yes, you guessed right!) the CHICKEN!
1st day – Chicken
2nd day – Dog
3rd day – Pig
4th day – Sheep
5th day – Cattle
6th day – Horse
7th day – Human
So, did the chicken or the egg come first?
Well, if you’re one for myths and folklore, without a doubt, the CHICKEN!
Maybe then, we should eat less of this ancestor of ours, right?
)
It isn’t surprisingly that most folklore and myths have similarities in them. A devastating calamity sounds like what Noah went through, too, doesn’t it?
I love myths – shows how powerful and creative our imagination can be. It’s entertaining for an otherwise boring afternoon!
