“I will miss your face in the window…”

It’s with great sadness that my dog Bubs has passed away on Monday due to complications from old age.
I never had a dog that matched my personality so well. He was a people’s dog to the core. When I first got him I was so excited to have a big dog and do big dog activities.
However I quickly learned that he was a dog like no other. Wrestle? Tug o war? No way. He was a lover not a fighter. Fetch? What do you think I’m a dog? He made it clear to me he was not going to be a circus act when it took me a month to get him to shake hands with me.
His gift was that you he was a great friend. Bubs had an extra sense of people in distress. A great comfort to those around him in their darkest moments, he could just stay next to someone for hours if you were feeling down. I realized that wasn’t his preference as most days after a little together time he would go his own way to snooze the day away. Unless of course we were gonna take a car ride especially on those cold winter days with the windows open or to go hiking.
Together through my saddest times and my happiest times, his loyalty was always unquestioned. A great hiking partner who could just tackle the steepest of trails, the outdoors was his favorite place to be. Like a true friend he did things that he was not happy about but tolerated for me. From his Halloween costumes like a vampire or a lion to his holiday roles as the Easter Bubs or Santa Bubs, he grinned and beared it.
Bubs strange ways knew no bounds. From standing in front of a partially opened door waiting for someone to open it wider because he couldn’t figure out how he’ fit through to having no problem running through a child to get to his leash he was quite the quirky character. I remember taking your dog card when I tossed you a piece of meat and you actually ducked. What kind of dog ducks away from meat?
I will miss your face in the window when I come home and you barking with uncontrollable excitement when your in the car and you start to recognize we were near one of your favorite places. You have been the greatest four legged friend I ever could have hoped for.
