My Dear Distinguished World Leaders,
Won’t you please make time to consider?
That it’s not as per man’s desire,
We decide how to govern nature-
For all of earth’s air, land and waters
Along with all her living creatures
neither knows of man’s drawn up borders
nor yields to executive powers
It’s in Nature’s nature to nurture
She’s both, creator and preserver
And we enjoy all of her splendour,
The fruits of nature’s endless labour
But beware of nature’s full powers,
In her too resides a destroyer
Though mostly, a natural feature
She’ll strike back against man made dangers-
But if we truly get to know her,
We will see in her the protector
She provides cure and keeps us secure
But then, she also does so much more-
Sadly, we take, exploit and plunder,
Pollute, chase growth and not consider
How to manage and curb desires
For only so much, can she endure
We’ve no time, but for truth and candour
We need nature to live and prosper
We must build back better, not bigger
We all win, when we respect nature
Global Biodiversity Crisis Calls for Urgent Action. It’s Time for Nature! We need to rebuild our socially constructed constitutions and notions of growth and embrace environmental sustainability as the new way of function, not merely an option. Let’s first recognise the right of nature, namely the recognition that our environment is a sum of interconnected systems which have a right to exist, persist, regenerate, and continue its natural functions. – G. Shantini, WWF-Malaysia
The #LeadersPledge4Nature is endorsed by over 60 heads of state and governments, committing to reverse nature loss by 2030. It is crucial this momentum is maintained at the forthcoming #BiodiversitySummit. Read the pledge: https://www.leaderspledgefornature.org/ #4Nature4Us
