A Life Free From Hunger, Thirst And Malnutrition. ..

A life free from hunger, thirst and malnutrition.

A pet is for life, and adopting a dog is not something to be undertaken lightly. To mark #ResponsibleDogOwnershipMonth, we will be highlighting the ‘Five Freedoms’ from the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW), with the first freedom being ‘freedom from hunger, thirst and malnutrition’.

Dogs are sentient beings, and many dog owners would agree that they feel emotions just as much as we do. It’s a fact that they bring countless benefits to our lives. From emotional support, to the exceptional service dogs supporting individuals with disabilities, our canine companions give so much to humankind. It has even been scientifically proven that petting a dog decreases our heart rate and releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones that make us feel content. We owe it to them to make sure that we reciprocate the same devotion they have for us.

Sadly, due to the current global health crisis, we are seeing a stark increase in the number of dogs abandoned by their owners. These domestic animals are left to fend for themselves on the harsh streets, and many fall victim to dog fights, abuse, severe injuries and starvation. Soi Dog’s community outreach team and humane education team have been working tirelessly throughout this crisis advocating for and informing local communities about the importance of animal welfare. In addition to abandoned pets, street dogs and cats, who rely heavily on tourists and local feeders to survive, have also been gravely impacted by the pandemic. Thanks to your support for our emergency appeal, we have been able to distribute dog and cat food to feeders whilst encouraging others to help feed the street animals in their local area. Whether you are taking care of your own dog or a street dog, it is an act of basic humanity to offer an animal food and clean water, and this simple act of kindness can save a life. 🧡
