Updates From Imms Shelter

Oei Phaik Imm runs an animal shelter in Tambun, Ipoh. On 4th March 2011, my friend, Judy Chua, wrote to seek help for Phaik Imm and all her animals. Imm (as she is known) was in dire financial straits, she herself was in extremely poor health to the point of collapse and was suffering from depression to the extent of wanting to totally give up on everything she had worked so hard for.

A very long story cut short, Imm had what I would call, a lot of “affinity”, because I blogged, email-blasted out and help just poured in for her and her animals.
Besides the RM13k donation that came in, there was also a monthly pledge by my friend, PC Leong and his friend, Chew. These donations, managed carefully by Judy, and the monthly pledges have so far been sufficient for Imm to continue running her shelter. We also managed to get Ipoh folks in to help on a weekly basis and all this has kept the shelter in good shape.
Here are updates from Judy:
Dear all
The cats and dogs, Imm and I wish you allGong Xi Fa Caifor the new year of the Dragon. The year of the rabbit that ends today has been an amazing one for all of us. Thanks to your kindness, support and generosity .. the cats and dogs are well fed and have a safe refuge. The strays outside the shelter are also very appreciative of the food shared with them each day. And our hearts rejoices in knowing that there is goodness in this world.
Since Nov we have been able to hire a worker that comes in the afternoon to help with the cleaning. This has been a great help to Imm especially as she still has to go in daily to do the feeding and also the cleaning of the cattery on the days I don’t go in. Carol, Yvonne and her son who have been helping with the cleaning since March are now able to have a break. They have volunteered to come in again when needed.
It has been a busy year, of ups and downs. We have been able to take the downs in our strides because of your support and encouragement. We look foward to the year of the dragon with optimism and hope for blessings of relatively good health and physical wellness to continue caring for the much loved cats and dogs. Btw, Imm turned 65 a few days ago!
WE wish you, your families and all your loved ones bountiful blessings for the dragon year. May your family reunion on the eve of the remaining rabbit year be of great joy and cheer.
Kind regards
Judy, Imm & all the residents (with appreciative woof-woofs & meow-meows) at Imm’s shelter
