Everyone, please help circulate. If he is a lost dog, we hope his owner can be found. If not, we hope someone will offer to adopt him. Let’s hope he won’t be sent to any shelter. Please help.
UPDATES at 12.00noon – Our reader, Connie, would like to adopt the dog, but upon contacting Vicky, the dog had been surrendered to the SPCA this morning, and Vicky asked Connie to go to the SPCA t get the dog. Connie contacted me for help and I called the SPCA and it said only the person who surrendered the dog can retrieve the dog. Otherwise, the dog will be subject to vaccination and neutering and it would take weeks during which time, we do not know the fate of the dog at the shelter. So, I called Vicky and am now awaiting the hp of the person who surrendered the dog.
UPDATES at 12.25pm – I called the person who surrendered the dog but could not get through. Then I called the SPCA office and they said the person who surrendered said to keep the dog there for a week after which she would retrieve the dog as there is someone interested to adopt the dog. Now, the story gets complicated because I conveyed this to Vicky and Vicky said that is not what she has understood and that it is not true at all. I’ve now enlisted Vicky’s help to speak to the person who surrendered the dog and folks….please pray that we can somehow get the dog out (before anything untoward happens) as Connie is waiting to adopt the dog and give it a safe and loving Forever Home! Connie, hang on, please. We are doing all we can….!
UPDATES at 12.47pm – I’ve finally managed to get in touch with the person who surrendered the dog. Here’s the story direct from her – She requested the SPCA to keep the dog for 3 days to wait for the owner to claim after which she will let the SPCA do whatever they wish to do with it. So the SPCA must have misunderstood her instructions. I checked with her twice and I’m sure I understood her correctly. This is what she said: I asked the SPCA to keep the dog for 3 days so that they owner can retrieve it. After that, I don’t care what they do with the dog. So I asked her if she would be willing to go down to the SPCA to retrieve the dog. She was busy with CNY preps but is willing to do it and give the dog to Connie under one condition – that Connie will return the dog to the rightful owner should the owner turn up. I think that condition is fair.
UPDATES at 1.10pm – There is obviously a miscommunication here but never mind, because I’ve got the SPCA chairperson’s decision now. Apparently, the SPCA said the person who surrendered instructed them to keep the dog for a week for the owner to retrieve after which she herself will take back the dog. But the person said she did not say that. Anyway, that must have been a miscommunication. But now that Connie has agreed to her terms, the chairperson said all that needs to be done is for the person to call the SPCA to tell them they can release the dog to Connie. Connie will FOSTER the dog until the owner is found, failing which, she will adopt the dog and give him a forever home. Let’s hope this works out now.
UPDATES at 1.25pm – The person who surrendered the dog texted me to say she wants the SPCA to keep the dog for a few more days. As the rescuer, it is her prerogative. We have tried our best. We hope Connie will eventually be able to adopt the dog. From her text messages, the person has her reservations about us. She asks why we are keen to help this dog and not other non-pedigree dogs. Obviously, she is not aware of our work and how we work very hard to help every animal that comes through us. Most of the animals we help are non-pedigree, if she would only look at our track record. Here is where the lack of trust causes animals to suffer. We do not blame her, though, she must have had bad experiences in life to make her lose her trust of humans. She told Connie and me that she doesn’t want the dog to be sold to a petshop. That’s smacking us right in the face saying that we will sell the dog. Ouch, that hurts.
We just hope the dog will be safe in the shelter and will eventually be re-united with his owner or gets to a good home.
Happy New Year, everyone, and if I have one wish to make, it’s for everyone to cultivate trust and goodwill in their fellow beings. It won’t be a happy world if we all live with so much distrust and suspicion in each other. I, for one, will never be able to help so many rescuers if I harbour distrust on everyone (mostly strangers) who asks for help. It is trust that enabled us to help so many rescuers and in turn, their animals.
