📣 SOI DOG NEWS UPDATE: Soi Dog Foundation’s Bangkok Director of Animal Welfare Dr. Tuntikorn Rungpatana (Dr. Oob) has been appointed to Thailand’s Cruelty Prevention and Welfare of Animal Committee! Read the full article here: https://links.soidog.org/phuket-news
Dr. Oob, who takes over from President of Soi Dog Foundation Thailand Kiranee Narabal, will serve a four-year term alongside six other committee members. The committee consists of government representatives, representatives from animal welfare organisations and animal aid centres and other animal cruelty and prevention experts. Committee members will have the power to propose new policies and offer opinions as to how the current legislation – the Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Provision of Animal Welfare Act 2014 – can be revised.
Dr. Oob highlighted that, although Soi Dog sat on the committee that drafted full details of the Act, it still requires further revision, and he will be proposing new measures and guidelines to the government. An important issue he will be raising is the use of snares in Thailand. Soi Dog has seen an increase in dogs caught in these deadly traps – with many either losing their lives or requiring life-saving surgeries – and will fight to see them outlawed. Dr. Oob will also be working to raise public awareness of existing penalties under the Act and pushing for their enforcement.
Since 2003, Soi Dog has collaborated with government agencies and local authorities on a number of animal welfare issues, such as introducing spay and neuter programmes, ending Thailand’s dog and cat meat trade and responding to natural disasters, like the Bangkok and Ubon Ratchathani floods which left thousands of animals displaced. We hope to continue this vital work for the benefit of street dogs and cats in Thailand. Find out more about our organisation’s works here: https://links.soidog.org/more-about-SoiDogFoundation
