Soi Dog’s Rescues Have A Reason To Smile!

The start of September marked National (UK) Pet Smile Day 😁. We asked one of Soi Dog’s veterinarians Dr. Kik, who specialises in animal dentistry, to shed light on how Soi Dog cares for the dogs’ and cats’ oral health and the importance of pet dental care in general.

Unfortunately, street animals’ oral hygiene can be overlooked. Many of our rescues arrive in terrible shape, either malnourished or severely injured and suffering from diseases or blood parasites. But we encounter many with oral health issues as well. This is why we have an operational dentist room in our dog hospital specifically for oral health check-ups. Dental diseases not only cause pain but can be linked to other potentially serious health problems too. Long-standing infections in the mouth can even transfer into the blood and cause problems in other parts of the body, including the kidneys, liver and heart.

This is why we urge all pet owners not to overlook their pet’s dental hygiene. It’s important to our furry companion’s overall health to brush their teeth (even if they might not enjoy it so much). After all, a healthy pet is a happy pet! 🐶🐱
