Earth Overshoot Day 2020
Tweet |
Today is Earth Overshoot Day (EOD) – more than three weeks later than last year.
.
Each year, Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has used more from nature than our planet can renew during the entire year. Humanity currently uses 60% more than what can be renewed, through overfishing, overharvesting forests, and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than ecosystems can absorb. Simply put, if the Earth is a retirement account, we are currently living off the principal, instead of the interest.
.
One of the issues plaguing our planet now is plastic pollution, as almost everything we produce and consume utilises single-use plastics. A majority of these plastics end up in our oceans and landfills, and take centuries to degrade. So, be an educated and responsible consumer let’s make sustainable choices. Every little bit counts, and we can make a difference.
