The future of turtles is in danger — and working tirelessly to protect freshwater tutles is Dr. Chen Pelf Nyok (@drpelf81). Dr. Chen co-founded the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (@tcsmalaysia), dedicated to bringing about the recovery of depleted wildlife populations of freshwater turtles in Malaysia.⠀

To date, they have saved over 4,500 terrapin eggs from human consumption, with more than 3,000 head-started terrapins released back into the river. They have also reached out to more than 10,000 students through their Turtle Camps and school talks.⠀

In 2018, Dr. Chen was awarded the “Commonwealth Point of Light” by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her outstanding contributions in the field of freshwater turtle conservation in Malaysia.⠀

Turtle Conservation Society

The Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia was established in October 2011. The aim of the society is to bring about the recovery of depleted wild populations of turtles, with particular reference to freshwater turtles, in Malaysia through partnerships with like-minded organizations, individuals and local communities as well as through its own programs.
