Do You Know That Incubation Temperature Of Turtle ..

Do you know that incubation temperature of turtle eggs determines the sex of the hatchlings? Warmer temperature, i.e. above 30oC will produce more female hatchlings, while cooler temperature (below 28oC) produces more male hatchlings.

.

Furthermore, turtles are pre-dated as early as the egg stage. Fire ants, crabs and monitor lizards feed on turtle eggs. When hatchlings crawl down the beach into the sea, they are vulnerable to crabs, big fish and birds of prey. Consumption of eggs by humans is one of the main threats to their survival. It is estimated that only 1 in 1000 turtle hatchlings will survive and become adults.
