The Turkish Government Has Given Instructions To A..

The Turkish Government has given instructions to all the relevant authorities to ensure street animals are fed during lockdowns and movement control orders.

Such a heartwarming move which is reflective of kindness and compassion.

Sadly, the situation here is just the opposite.

Local councils, residents associations and condo managements prohibit the feeding of stray animals.

Yet they are the first ones to complain when stray dogs and cats mess-up garbage bins by scavenging and rummaging for food.

We’ve been told there are also some residents who pick fights with and reprimand their more caring neighbors for feeding street animals.

What a bunch of clueless people!

Generally animals have only two main needs – the need for food to survive as well as the need to copulate to propagate their population.

When these two needs are taken care of, they will cease to be a nuisance and will not rummage through garbage or roam around looking to mate.

The best option would be to neuter and return these dogs to their original surroundings and ensure that they are fed daily.

Once this is done, they will not cross your path and will only make noise if there is an intrusion in the neighborhood.

You will then have watchdogs and guard dogs that will ensure that your neighborhood is safe.

Not long ago, we happened to have a casual conversation with some very important and well placed people who were also Muslims.

They lived in a very opulent area and there was a pack of stray dogs in the neighborhood that made a lot of noise very late at night.

The people who spoke to us deduced that the dogs must have been making all the noise because there were outsiders going through the small neighborhood.

CCTV footage confirmed their suspicions.

This small community did not immediately label the dogs as being a nuisance. They knew that the dogs were watching over the neighborhood which was also their home.

For this reason, they wanted the dogs to remain there and asked us if we could arrange for them to be neutered as they did not want an over population.

They also tasked their security guards to feed the dogs daily with kibbles which all the neighbors contributed to buy.

Why can’t more people think like this instead of throwing a tantrum whenever a dog barked?

Please have a heart and do not sentence these defenseless animals to death.

They will either die of hunger or road accidents – because of crossing roads to travel afar looking for food, or put to death when caught by the local councils because of your complaints.

Please have a heart.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
