Pak Din Has A New Dwelling Place (fingers Crossed)

We’ve been keeping up with Chew on how we could help Pak Din. Many thanks to everyone who has written in to offer suggestions and help. On the pipeline will be the setting up of a joint account (Chew and a friend) as a good samaritan has offered to raise funds for Pak Din’s needs. AnimalCare cannot do this per se as our help is only extended to the animals and we will help Pak Din with the medical bills and food for his animals. So, this good samaritan asked if I could get someone to start the joint account. Chew has agreed and I’ve sourced another friend who might agree too, but only after a visit to Pak Din’s place.
We’re providing a bag of catfood for Pak Din’s 8 cats.
Here’s some good news to share:
Dear Kah Yein,
Yesterday Pak Din called me saying that he’s got verbal permission from another land owner(close to where he’s illegally staying now) to move there. Its also neighboring to Ivan Ho’s land. Ivan Ho is the herbalist that sells vegetables and herbs at the SJBA on weekends. Pak Din used to be the farm caretaker for Ivan at his farm in Gombak. I visited Ivan about 2 years ago and that’s how I met Pak Din. Apparently something happened and he had to vacate Ivan’s farm and had no choice but to put up a temporary shelter at an idle piece of land(also happens to be neighboring Ivan’s place) and next to a Muslim orphanage.
The drawback is there is no water and electricity at the new place. Pak Din says there’s a source of stream water that can be trapped for water and for electricity he has to ask Ivan’s permission to draw a electric cable from Ivan’s place. Once Ivan agrees he will start to move and build his hut at the new land. Then he will need the following:
1)obtain building materials and to put up the hut. For this I’ll have to get him to list down what items is needed and how much money will be involved. Pak Din has also identified some second hand materials at a nearby construction site. Both me, Wuan and hopefully another friend can chip in to help out also.
2)get electric cable/fittings to draw electricity from Ivan’s farm. I’ll try to see if a friend who manufactures electric cable will be willing to sell us at cost
3)get water supply. Not sure at this moment what we need to do
4)put up a perimeter fence with wire netting to prevent the animals from running too far out. As you can imagine its basically secondary jungle land so there are even wild boars that roam nearby, plus wild dogs and also unwelcome humans.
The friend you suggested called me this afternoon regarding the setting up of joint account for donations for Pak Din. I sense he needs to be convinced that Pak Din is a genuine case before he commits further and therefore I proposed to take him to meet Pak Din so that he can assess for himself. Will plan to take him during my next visit to bring the cat food from AnimalCare for Pak Din sometime over this coming weekend. Also will assess the new place that Pak Din intends to move to see how suitable it is.
In the meantime Kon has pledged Rm200 for Pak Din.
Rgds,
Chew
