Turtles are a keystone species, they play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Their absence will highly impact other wildlife and fauna.

Generally, marine turtles help maintain the productivity of coral reef ecosystems and control the population number of jellyfish. Freshwater turtles help keep our lakes and rivers clean by scavenging for carcasses, nutrient cycling and dispersal of seeds. While terrestrial turtles are nature’s engineers, they modify their habitats by trampling, grazing and dispersing seeds. Some also provide shelter for other wildlife by sharing their burrows.
