How well do you know painted terrapins? Have you ever heard of this species? The painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis) is native to several Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia where it is locally known as ‘Tuntung Laut’. WWF-Malaysia works to conserve this species by protecting its critical nesting habitats in Setiu, Terengganu, with support from CIMB Islamic, our corporate partner. We also work with key agencies such as the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia as well as the local community.
As World Turtle Day was recently celebrated on 23 May 2020, let’s learn interesting facts about painted terrapins (images below and video link: bit.ly/3gzZhCg ) and appreciate this unique freshwater turtle. If you can, please support our conservation efforts at wwf.org.my/support Thank you
