Can you guess how old is the rainforest in Peninsular Malaysia? 🤔
Over 130 million years old! Wow, that’s older than the Amazon!
But as the years go by, our forest is slowly disappearing 😢
The lungs of earth have been cut down to make way for agriculture, settlement and infrastructure development, reducing forest quality and forest area.
We can already see the impact of forest fragmentation, which includes:
🍂 damage to water catchment and river system a.k.a. our water supply
🍂 inhibiting free movement of fauna and flora, thus reducing the diversity of plants and animals
🍂 reduced genetic viability of species
🍂 reduced forest cover
🍂 loss of national natural heritage and potential medical resource
Keep an eye out for our next post to find out WHY it’s important to conserve and piece our forest back together again🌳
