Due to their preference in solitude living and gentle nature, orangutans face threats that mainly come from human activities:

🛑 Poaching

Logging and human expansion has rapidly decreased the areas of untouched rainforest where orangutans live. Fires for quick land clearings also threaten the survival of the species as they often cannot outrun the fires. 😔 Orangutan infants are often sold as exotic pets, while adult orangutans are hunted for their meat. Although it is illegal to kill, capture or sell them 🙅‍♂️🙅‍♀️, the illegal trade of orangutan is a highly profitable illegal trade, making it even harder to put a halt to the problem.

What can you do to help? Talk about orangutans and the plight they face. Be mindful of your actions that may cause a ripple effect that can harm them indirectly or directly. 💕
