This is one of the reasons we don't encourage anybody to keep turtles as pets, besides the very obvious reason that it is illegal to do so.
Freshwater turtles, especially softshell turtles (like this one in the picture) grows up to more than a meter in length. And as such, they require much space and lots and lots of food and water. Keeping them in a small container is torturous.
They are long-lived animals, and may outlive you! Releasing them into a temple pond or into the river system when you no longer find them attractive (or when they start biting your grandchildren) is a very irresponsible action.
Our freshwater turtles need our help. Help us advocate for better protection for them (stricter laws, harsher penalties).
P/S: Thanks Jen S Wong for the heads up.
Jedd, my son, said, if you don't post, you cannot educate the people and maybe prevent another wrong doing.
Caution: tissues in hand please, and for those who loves turtles, please don't berate me for disrespecting the turtle by posting.
My team and I teared for the last 2 days.
On 18th of October, this MAN came to us with this very ill turtle. There were literally no muscles in this poor fella. All soft limbs and fats looming out. The shape of him, is the shape of the container.
