Thank you again Gladys, the talented artist for this sketch and narrative on 'National Black Dog Day'.
‘October 1 is National Black Dog Day. These are some of the black dogs I’ve drawn, including my Kuro. Sometime in July of 2014, I fell in love with a photo of a little black pup on Pet Finder. When we went to fetch Kuro from the shelter he was the last of his siblings to be adopted. The other 4 were brown and light coloured. I don’t know about Western countries but some Chinese beliefs are over the top. Being black coloured is bad enough, what’s worse with Kuro was the white socks and white tipped tail. Apparently it represents white candles that’s lighted at funerals. Don’t ask me who started this nonsense but that’s the absurd belief. Black dogs and cats have the lowest adoption rates in shelters. #adoptablackdogtoday’
