During this MCO period, Ipoh City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh or MBI) will be capturing strays especially those wandering around market or food court area. Up until now, there is no cases of Covid-19 transmission from animals to human but there are cases the other way round, according to Malaysia’s Veterinary Department. (Tiger from New York’s Bronx Zoo was tested positive for Coronavirus).
MBI is afraid that transmission to animals/strays might be the next wave which worsen the current situation.
During this operation, strays that are already under ISPCA TNR(M) program (with red collar) will also be targeted but they will be returned back to respective volunteers after that.
MBI also urged volunteers to assist as much as possible to temporarily keep any strays around the neighbourhood to avoid them from wandering around which increases the risks of being infected and after the situation turns better, to send these strays to be neutered and released back.
Apology if this causes any inconvenience to any volunteers/ to public but we really hope to have some helping hands during times like this. Thank you.
